Why in abdominal surgery cleaning in case of males

why in abdominal surgery cleaning in case of males, is done from nipples to mid thigh whereas in case of females, it’s done from inframammary crease to mid thigh? I mean to say why the starting point is different in case of males and females?

The difference in the starting point for cleaning the abdominal area during surgery between males and females is primarily due to anatomical considerations and the aim to minimize the risk of contamination.

For males, starting the cleaning process from the nipples down to the mid-thigh is practical because it covers the entire abdominal area while also considering the usual location of surgical incisions. The nipples are a convenient starting point and provide a clear reference for moving downward. This method ensures thorough cleaning of the entire abdomen, including the surgical site, to reduce the risk of contamination and infection.

On the other hand, for females, starting the cleaning process from the inframammary crease (the area where the breast meets the chest wall) down to the mid-thigh is chosen for similar reasons. This starting point ensures that the entire abdominal area, including the lower abdomen where surgical incisions may be made, is adequately cleaned. Additionally, this method takes into account the presence of the breasts in females, which can be a potential source of contamination if not properly addressed.

In summary, the difference in starting points for cleaning the abdominal area during surgery between males and females is based on anatomical considerations and aims to ensure thorough cleaning of the entire abdominal area while minimizing the risk of contamination and infection.
