Why is this myth commonly circulated about DNB that it is preferred overseas than MD ? USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Nz, nowhere is this true as far as I know. Then in which countries is it preferred? Uganda? Zimbabwe? Kenya? Croatia? Jharkhand? Congo? Bhutan?
Maybe because dnb candidates are actually earning their pass and md ms candidates are getting a free pass, the difference is showing during interviews in the foreign countries
DNB exam is accredited by the National board of Education, India. Its a national level exam.
Whereas MD is provided by deemed colleges and (govt/private) colleges under universities. So, a University Or regional level exam.
Although across India, MD/DNB is seen equally eligible to practice, outside India, they may view DNB a tad bit higher than MD coz it has a national level exit exam, competing against a higher number of examinees than a university held MD exam.
And as far as I’ve heard, this DNB favoured more than MD holds good only in middle eastern or gulf countries.
Western countries like UK, US, Australia, NZ, Canada don’t give a damn whether you are MD or DNB. You have to repeat their residency to be a specialist/consultant there.
Yes this is what even i have heard. If we want to go abroad we must clear the qualifying exam there (like usmle, plab). Dnb as a course gives a stronger foundation and more confidence to clear such challenging exams. Md ms is just an extension of what we did in mbbs (either tell the answer what we know or stare blankly into vacant space till external gives up and gives us a pass ).
I don’t want to dissuade people from taking MS / MD. It’s good in its own right. But if you don’t have any other choice, financially not feasible for MD MS, please don’t give up on DNB from good institutes.
From what I heard its really good - No bond and Yes, exam is tough, but if one passes it in an alien state with alien examiners, definitely he ll be capable of standing his own for other future endeavors like mch or mrcs or even his own independent practice.
That’s why we see so many MD/MS guys giving DNB exams. It’s not just a cosmetic decoration for the name board as a lot of people think. It shows that the doctor has been tested in a remote setting outside his comfort zone and has yet managed to deliver what is expected out of him.
Just that DNB course structure is similar to what is being followed internationally… MD/MS is old school system.
My question is are u an Indian ?… No plz don’t mind it …kya hai ki Jharkhand is a state… but if u think that i m wrong…u may open GK books of children
Go apply for MTI(UK) … You will realise by your own whether its the truth or mere a hype/myth.
What its mean preferred ,for usa we have to crack usmle and so on for other country , than what is this word prefered comes from
