why TIBC low in AOCD and high in IDA. and why it’s related to ferritin level?
TIBC is related to transferrin level…
TIBC = total no. Of Fe that can bind to transferrin (Not all the Fe binding sites of transferrin are bound to Fe at physiological level)
Ferritin is the free iron in circulation
In IDA, ferritin decreases, so more iron is released from the Transferrin, making more Fe binding sites free… So the TIBC increases
In AOCD, it’s an inflammatory condition, so Transferrin, being a negative APR, decreases and so TIBC decrease
