To forget, is more figurative than literal in the first statement. It means to move past the distress caused to you by forgiving the person who caused the deed for your own mental peace. So here, to forget, is to move on from something, not to literally forget about it or delete it’s memory from the mind. Whereas repression, is an immature defense mechanism that subliminally causes one to actually forget something traumatic that had happened to them in the past/recent past. I hope this helps.
