Hypermotivity during pregnancy

Hypermotivity during pregnancy

The hormones

During pregnancy, several hormones are produced in very large quantities to allow the proper development of the fetus. But this hormone level is important, it can also affect the moods of pregnant women.

Estrogen would have an exciting effect, while progesterone, would rather have a sedative effect. Prolactin, the breastfeeding hormone, would have a relaxing effect, while dopamine, a precursor hormone of adrenaline and noradrenaline, would act as a trigger for fun. Cortisol, the stress hormone, can make the woman irritable and hypersensitive.

In addition, hormonal disruption due to the fluctuation and interaction of these different hormones, would cause imbalances and mood changes in the future mom.

The move to a new status

Pregnancy is a perfect time for questions and doubts. Pregnant, the woman knows she will become a mother in a few months and this change of identity can generate fears and anxiety at home such as:

  • The fear of not knowing how to take care of the baby

  • The fear of physiological upheavals like facing your body that is transforming (the belly that rounds, the chest that increases or the appearance of the skin that changes)

  • Fear for child health

  • The stress of the unknown such as questions about childbirth

  • Fear of pain during childbirth: fear of epidural, caesarean section, forceps

  • anxiety due to stressful events of everyday life

  • Stress due to ′′ problem ′′ pregnancy or complications in previous pregnancy

Because of too big psychological disruption, the risk would be of births coming before term.
