I tore my ACL in January this year, and it is giving me no pain

Please could I ask for advice, I tore my ACL in January this year, and it is giving me no pain, discomfort or instability so I am reluctant to have repair surgery. I have heard recently that if I don’t have surgery that I could end up with severe arthritis in my knee?? Has anybody else heard this or experienced this?? I am 49 and of reasonable fitness. Thanks

I’m the same age as you and tore my ACL plus both menisci, only I didn’t even realize it until much later. Could have been in June or could have been as far back as Feb 2019. Either way, like you I have only minimal pain and no instability. AFAIK the “you will get arthritis line” is a scare story that isn’t backed by data. (Or more precisely, you may well get arthritis down the road but you’re as likely to or more with surgery than without). I’m not planning to go for surgery myself unless my knee becomes severely limiting (or more precisely, my knee stops me from skiing) despite lots of exercise, rehab, PT, etc.
