What is overactive bladder syndrome (OAB): A symptom syndrome of urgency +/- incontinence usually accompanied by urinary frequency and nocturia in the absence of pathological (e.g UTI, Stones, bladder cancer) and metabolic factors (e.g. diabetes)

Steps to manage Overactive Bladder (OAB) 🧐🧐🧐

  1. Lifestyle changes (eliminate caffeinated drinks, stop smoking, reduce weight if obese)

  2. Bladder re-training and pelvic floor muscle exercises (both are effective in OAB) 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

  3. Pharmacotherapy (efficacy 50-75%)

  4. Intravesical injection of botulinum toxin A (efficacy 36-89%)

  5. Neuromodulation (50% cure)

  6. Clam cystoplasty (50%cure)

  7. Urinary diversion if all fails in severe cases
