They are the ones that transmit information to the brain and allow to distinguish between two sweet foods, for example. When you have a cold, the mucous membrane is congested, due to the presence of mucus in abundance. These mucus are the product of the immune defense that can fight the cold. The viruses are flowing to the blood circulation of the mucous membrane to destroy the viruses and expand the ships, which causes traffic to be blocked. Its presence in olfactory cells will mask their function and that’s why taste and smell disappear during a cold.strong text
