A collection of blood under the perichondrium

Septal Haematoma:
Septal hematoma is a collection of blood under the perichondrium or periosteum of the nasal septum
Causes: Trauma, septal surgery and bleeding disorders
Clinical features: Bilateral nasal obstruction (most
common presenting feature), frontal headache
Treatment:
Aspiration of small hematomas
Incision and drainage of large hematomas
followed by nasal packing
Systemic antibiotics to prevent abscess formation
Complications: Septal abscess, depression of
dorsum, permanently thickened septum
