What is Montgomery Silicone Tracheal T-tube ? ( see image)
It is s an artificial airway made of soft silicone tube that is shaped like a ‘T’.
T-tubes are used for many reasons; to support a diseased upper airway or to support the upper airway after surgery.
The distinctive shape of the T-tube allows part of the tube to support (or stent) the upper airway, whilst the lower parts act like a tracheostomy tube, allowing the child to breathe easily and expel secretions.
It is mainly being used in Laryngotracheal reconstruction surgery for Subglottic Stenosis
