Airway on Demand: Unroofing an Epiglottic Cyst

In this episode, William Rosenblatt, MD, describes the procedure to remove an epiglottic cyst in a patient’s airway.

Dr. Rosenblatt explains the case and points out that epiglottic cysts are benign fluid-filled bodies that may be an incidental finding on laryngoscopy. In the case presented, he said, the cyst was found unexpectedly during MRI before cancer surgery. The large, 1.6-cm cyst did not interfere with video laryngoscopy and intubation. The anesthesiologist aided the surgeon in unroofing the cyst while using a video laryngoscope.
