Difference between rose position and barking dog position?
In Barking Dog position neck is flexed at thorax but extended at Atlanto-occipital joint.
Whereas in Rose Position Neck is extended at both Thorax and Atlanto-occipital joint.
I suppose this is the main difference…
both are same.
rose =barking dog position
Sniffing dog position is different from them.
Rose position- Imagine placing pillow below shoulders, it leads to extension of neck n head both
Sniffing dog position- imagine placing pillow below neck, it leads to flexion of neck n extension of head (or flexion of neck at lower end n extension at upper end-Atlanto occipital joint)
Rose position used for operating in neck region- tracheostomy etc,
Sniffing dog position used for normal intubation.
Thomas dude…
U messed this up… U coined new terms bruh…
- Rose position:
Pillow below shoulders causes
EXTENSION at
a. Cervical joint
b. Atlanto-occipital joint
Indications: Tonsillectomy, Tracheostomy, adenoidectomy
- Barking Dog Position / Sniffing the morning air position
(There is no sniffing dog position)
Pillow below occiput causes
a. FLEXION at cervical joint
b. EXTENSION at occipital joint
Indications: Bronchoscopy, Laryngoscopy, Esophagoscopy,
We talk about two joints here- atlanto occipital and cervico thoracic ie neck with chest area.
In Rose there is all extension ie extension at both the above joints .
In Boyce ie barking dog …just imagine how a dog barks….or sniffing morning air…. Flexion at cervicothoracic and extension at atlantooccipital
