Do I have to do both foundation years and core medical training if I want to do MRCP?

  1. Do I have to do both foundation years and core medical training if I want to do MRCP?

  2. Is MRCP the same thing as MRCGP?

  3. I heard that if you do house job after MBBS then you dont have to do foundation year 1 because it is equivalent to that. Is this true?

  4. Do I have to do PLAB too if I want to do MRCP?

  5. The criteria to give MRCP is 1 year experience as a doctor post Getting a degree. So that means after house job you can give it. Training is not mandatory.

2.MRCGP is a different training program and a different specialty. it is General practicioner training. Mrcp is an internal medicine exam and entry test to specialist medical training. MRCGP can only be gotten through training and its a 3 year program and it is an end specialty so you become a consultant GP.

  1. Yes its true. After plab you join as FY2 or senior house officer if youve done home country house job.

  2. No, MRCP does not require plab.

To add a bit of advise, you CAN give mrcp anytime after housejob however, passing it without experience will be difficult. That is the only issue. PACES or the clinical exam part of MRCP makes even very good doctors shake in their boots.
