Fear of the “Clinical Gap”
We’ve recently been getting an increased number of messages from concerned applicants regarding how to submit GMC registration applications with gaps. Here are a few things we’d like to mention:

Do not lie. Gaps are not the end of the world. Many of us will have gaps but it is important that whatever gap you have is properly explained and that you provide every document GMC asks of you.

Do not falsify documents. If you have a gap where you just sat at home or were studying, tell the truth. There is an option for ‘vacation’ or ‘studying’. GMC does not expect you to always be working.

Do not think you won’t get GMC registration just because of a gap. GMC knows that life happens. You just need to work with them.

Do not give up quickly. Sometimes GMC make take a few weeks to a few months to complete your registration process. You shouldn’t feel that everyone is getting registration and that you’re just needlessly waiting. Everything will come in due time.

Do not get disheartened. Rarely GMC may come back and say that unfortunately your application for registration has been denied, but don’t let that stop you. GMC will let you know what your options are.
