How does hypothyroidism cause secondary amenorrhea?
Hypothyroidism-
Due to less t3/t4- TSH increases, and increased TRH,
TRH is a positive stimulant for release of PRL
So raised PRL may be the reason for amenorrhea.
Pls correct if wrong
Hypothyroidism leads to increased levels of TRH, which in turn leads to increased levels of prolactin. Excess prolactin suppresses gonadotropin release, leading to amenorrhea.
