Improving focus with diet - walnuts

In teenagers, incorporating 30 grams of raw walnut kernels into their diet for a period of six months has been linked with improved sustained attention and intelligence scores, according to a study.

This finding is backed scientifically in a study involving 771 healthy teenagers between the ages of 11 and 16. They were randomly assigned to two groups of equal size - intervention and control.

The intervention group consumed 30 grams of walnuts daily for six months. Walnuts are a good source of omega-3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). The study’s findings revealed significant benefits in attention, fluid intelligence, and ADHD symptoms, implying that eating 30 grams of walnuts per day for at least 100 days enhanced these neuropsychological outcomes.

More clinical and epidemiological research is required to investigate the impact of walnuts and ALA on neurodevelopment in adolescents and to gather more data. The takeaway message is that eating 30 grams of walnuts per day (at least four times a week) can be beneficial for enhancing brain function in teenagers.
