Let’s dedicate this week for quotient-based, coefficient-based formulae and equations:-
• Capillary filtration coefficient (CFC):

  • It is a measure of filterability of the capillary.
  • Filtration coefficient consists of 2 factors – (a) surface area of capillary walls, (b) permeability of the capillary wall (measured in terms of hydraulic conductivity).
  • In most tissues:- It is about 0.006 mL/min/mm Hg/100 gm.
  • It is highest in the glomerular capillaries ~ 12.5 mL/min/mm Hg. That is, if the net filtration pressure is 1 mm Hg, then in 1 min, 12.5 mL filtrate will be formed by glomerular capillaries. The NET FILTRATION PRESSURE is + 10 mm Hg. Hence, filtrate formed will be ~ 12.5 X 10 = 125 mL/min.
