blood on needle,rusted or whether syringe attached
5-type of injury
-scratch,deep or with bleeding
-if syringe attached with blood in it.any splash on face(risk of getting into eyes or mouth)
-what did you do after wards
-washed ,seqeezed or bandage
5-any signs of infection(oozing.pus ,redness and swelling)
if yes then offer antibiotics
6-ask about hepatitis and tetanus immunisation
if yes then ask when ?
if no then offer .
- personal question? have you had any history of previous significant history like hiv,hepatitis etc
8- if young female then you can ask whether she preganan or not?
ask his concerns?
if for hepatitis then tell chances are low but can give you immunoglobulins
if hiv again same but on history if comes as high risk (deep injury,syringe with blood,known hiv donor) then offer PEP and tell the serious side effects associated.
-concerns for tests
I am going to take blood now and with your consent I will request to test for hiv and hepatitis at 6 weeks times … but more tests can be done at 3,6 and 9 months times just to confirm that you are clear from infection.
concern about wife?
you must tell everything toyour wife and try to practice safe sex until 9 months when you are clear of everything.
