Osteochondroma is a developmental malformation of the growth plate, leading to a bony pedicle and a cartilaginous cap. It stops growing once the skeleton matures. However, it rarely undergoes malignant transformation into chondrosarcoma. Thus, it does not fit into the category of a tumour, neither does it fit into a benign lesion. Enchondroma is a is a true tumour arising from the chondrocytes which grows into the medullary cavity
