JONES FRACTURE:

A Jones fracture refers to a transverse fracture at the

junction of the metaphysis and diaphysis within 1.5 cm of

the tuberosity. The mechanism is thought to be due to a

large adduction force applied to the forefoot with the

ankle plantar flexed. The patient may present with

acute pain or with a history of chronic pain along the

lateral margin of the foot. Because of poor blood supply

at the site of the fracture, Jones fractures are typically

slow to heal and often require surgery.
