Thrombocytopenia and acute renal failure

An 8 year old boy presented with bloody diarrhoea, fever and abdominal pain. He is found to have haemolytic anaemia, thrombocytopenia and acute renal failure. What is the most likely diagnosis?

explanation

Haemolytic anaemia, thrombocytopenia and acute renal failure is classical of Haemolytic uraemic syndrome. In the majority of cases it is secondary of E. coli 0157 which leads to bloody diarrhoea. TTP is associated with these features but also neurological features.
