Early starvation (1-3 days) is frequently associated with a transient increase in basal metabolic rate (BMR) and protein oxidation. As starvation progresses and lean body mass decreases, both BMR and protein oxidation decrease.
The BMR of overweight and obese people is higher than normal healthy people and this is because of the higher lean body mass. Thank you.
