What happens to bmr in starvation and obesity?? Increase or decrease?
As it’s related to lean body mass,
in obesity, increases
in starvation, decreases.
Ritwik Sahoo but doesn’t fat in obesity causes hindrance in bmr?
Early starvation (1-3 days) is frequently associated with a transient increase in basal metabolic rate (BMR) and protein oxidation. As starvation progresses and lean body mass decreases, both BMR and protein oxidation decrease.
The BMR of overweight and obese people is higher than normal healthy people and this is because of the higher lean body mass. Thank you.
