Where does tip of LMA actually inserts. if it sits above oesophagus opening

Where does tip of LMA actually inserts. if it sits above oesophagus opening , then there is no chance of aspiration , as oesphagus opening has been completely abstructed by LMA.

confused. need little explanation

Tip of LMA is placed on hypopharynx …not on glottis… that’s why there are chances of aspirations.

Moreover, it also depends on sealing pressure …in 1st gen LMA sealing prs is 20-22 as compared to 25-40 in 2nd gen…thus chances of aspiration is less in second generation LMA (values of sealing pressure may not be exact)

When properly placed LMA - the tip is placed below the base of tounge above the esophageal sphincter …

Sides will be in pyriform fossa

Ventilation occurs from the

Middle of the fossa…

If aspiration occurs… from esophaagus…contents easily move into trachea… and can cause aspiration

sir if it is placed on esophagus sphinchter, it means easophagus is closed . then how aspiration occurs ?

really confused
