Heard that md medicine can nnot survive without dm ,
While md pulmonary medicine can still survive without dm

In metro cities both pulmo and medicine people struggle for setup
MD medicine people see most of the patient of pulmonary medicine in tier 2/3 cites
As a medicine person you have ample opportunities
If survival is the criteria, even MBBS doctor can survive with his/her skills. For cities, MD Medicine without DM is challenging as compared to MD Pul.Med, but in periphery MD Medicine can earn a decent living, probably more than Pulmonary counterpart.
