  5. I am an Indian citizen and have acquired my basic Medical Degree from a foreign country. Am I eligible for PG Medical Training in Germany?
    Indian citizens with basic medical training from foreign countries (Russia, Ukraine, China, other East European nations, South America etc) are eligible provided they have cleared the Screening examination in India and possess permanent registration in MCI. However, it should be noted that German hospitals do not prefer foreign doctors with degrees from a third country (eg: Indian with foreign medical degree) unless they have substantial work experience. This is the ground reality.

  6. I have completed by Under-graduate Medical studies (MBBS/MD) from a country outside the European Union (eg: India, Russia, Ukraine, China, The Philippines, Georgia etc). Is my degree recognized for Post-Graduate Medical Specialist Training in Germany?
    Yes. Your degree is considered to be a recognized basic medical degree. However, if the Medical licensing authority in Germany ascertains that the syllabus of your Medical degree differs from the basic German Medical education syllabus, they can insist that you sit for an “Assessment Test” or “Equivalence Exam” before issuance of license to practice (Approbation). As a thumb-rule, all candidates having Medical degrees from outside the EU will have to sit for this exam, unless they have significant work-experience or higher qualifications.

    The best option is to learn German language is at Goethe Institute/s in your home country. There are also reputed Private German language training institutes. A full time course will take 6-8 months to reach B2 level. It is highly recommended to learn German till B2 level in your Home country. C1 level is offered as part of our PGMP program in Germany.

    The State Chamber of Physicians in various provinces is responsible for granting Approbation.

  9. What is the form/structure of the “Assessment Test”/Equivalence Exam.?
    This test refers to the substance of the German Medical Training. You are expected to demonstrate that you have knowledge equivalent to Medical Graduates trained in German Medical Universities. The subjects for this test are mainly Internal Medicine and Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Pharmacology.
